More than 100 Nigerians from the underserved Karu community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have commenced digital skills training under the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-Cisco Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) initiative.
The programme is being implemented by the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Nigeria’s foremost Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training and education institute and one of the approved Digital Transformation Centres under the global initiative.
The ITU-Cisco Digital Transformation Centres initiative is a partnership programme involving the ITU, Cisco and other partners, including HP and the ST Foundation. Cisco, HP and the ST Foundation developed the training content being deployed by Digital Transformation Centres during the programme.
The initiative, which also incorporates a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) component, is designed to expand access to digital skills and empower people in underserved communities in the FCT and other parts of Nigeria to participate more effectively in the digital economy.
The training commenced at the Government Day Secondary School, Karu, where the President and Chief Executive Officer of DBI, Mr. David Daser, urged the participants to demonstrate commitment and take full advantage of the opportunity.
Daser encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge and digital skills acquired during the training to their personal, educational and professional development.
According to him, the programme would provide participants with a strong foundation to improve their digital competencies and enhance their effective participation in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
Representing the DBI President at the opening ceremony, the Head of Research, Innovations and Partnerships, Dr. Paulinus Ugwoke, declared the training open.
The programme is part of ongoing efforts by DBI and its partners to bridge the digital divide by extending relevant digital skills training to communities that have traditionally had limited access to digital learning opportunities.
