1. What is the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI)?

DBI is an International Centre for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training and research institution established by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in 2004. It is Nigeria’s foremost Centre of Excellence in ICT training, with campuses located across the country including Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Yola, Asaba, and Enugu. DBI is an accredited Centre of Excellence by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).


2. What is DBI’s relationship with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)?

DBI is an ITU Academy Training Centre and has been designated as a Digital Training Centre (DTC) in Nigeria under the ITU’s DTC Initiative. As part of this partnership, DBI collaborates with the ITU to deliver high-level international training courses to professionals, policymakers, and government officials across Africa and beyond.


3. What types of ITU-accredited training courses does DBI offer?

DBI delivers a range of advanced ICT training programmes in collaboration with the ITU Academy. Examples include:

  • Fiber Optics Infrastructure and Project Management – covers planning, design, and implementation of FTTH, Campus, Backbone, and Submarine systems.

  • Emerging Cybersecurity Threats and Vulnerabilities Management on Digital Infrastructures – covers governance, policy development, risk assessment, and incident response.

  • Sustainable Smart City Development Through Fiber Optics Infrastructure and Project Management – focuses on smart city concepts, fiber network deployment, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strategic Fibre Optic Infrastructure Deployment and Regulatory Management – a face-to-face programme for policymakers covering regulatory frameworks, infrastructure sharing, and national broadband strategies.


4. Who can attend DBI’s ITU training courses?

Unless specified otherwise, all ITU Academy training courses are open to all interested professionals, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, age, gender, religion, or economic status. Registrations from female participants and participants from developing countries are strongly encouraged.


5. Are these ITU courses offered online or in-person?

DBI offers both formats through its ITU partnership. Courses can be delivered as online instructor-led training (e.g., Fiber Optics Infrastructure and Project Management and Emerging Cybersecurity Threats courses) or as face-to-face training (e.g., the Strategic Fibre Optic Infrastructure Deployment programme held at DBI’s Abuja headquarters).


6. Does DBI offer executive-level training programmes?

Yes, DBI offers an Executive Digital Transformation Programme designed for senior professionals and government executives. This programme targets Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and Senior Government Executives and covers:

  • Strategic ICT & Digital Transformation

  • Cybersecurity & Digital Risk Management

The programme aims to equip leaders with the tools required to drive innovation, strengthen governance, and lead institutional transformation.


7. What other professional development opportunities does DBI provide?

DBI offers various professional training and certification programmes across ICT disciplines, including professional training, consultancy, and facilities rental services. The Institute has trained over 60,000 professionals across diverse sectors since its establishment. DBI also engages in initiatives such as indigenous software development, research on cybercrime and security, and electronic multimedia advancements.


8. What is the Intelligent Capacity Building Model (ICBM) programme?

The ICBM is a national workforce transformation programme jointly managed by DBI and SBTS Group to train and place 50,000 Nigerians into high-growth jobs. The programme offers:

  • 3-month and 6-month programmes

  • Tuition support and technology bundles (laptop and internet)

  • Daily meals and monthly stipends

  • Support for youth, unemployed/underemployed graduates, and career switchers looking to transition into tech, data, or customer service roles
