The South East Youth Stakeholders Forum (SEYSF) recently paid a courtesy visit to the President/CEO of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), David Daser at the institute’s headquarters in Abuja. The delegation, led by SEYSF Chairman, Mazi Ezenwa Onyirimba, passionately highlighted the state of neglect and disrepair at the DBI Enugu campus.
In his address, Mazi Onyirimba expressed concerns over the underutilisation of the DBI Enugu campus, which, according to him, holds immense potential to equip South East youths with critical skills in information and communications technology (ICT). “The DBI Enugu campus was envisioned as a hub to empower our youth with the skills they need to thrive in a digital economy, he said. However, the current state of the campus does not reflect this vision. We are here to appeal to you, sir, to ensure this dream is revived.”
He further underscored the strategic importance of the campus to the region, pointing out its role in tackling youth unemployment and advancing digital literacy in the South East.
In response, the DBI CEO, David Daser, acknowledged the concerns raised by SEYSF and commended the forum for its dedication to youth empowerment. He reassured the delegation of DBI’s commitment to revitalising the Enugu campus and announced a concrete timeline for its reactivation.
“We deeply appreciate your concerns and your commitment to the development of our youth. I assure you that the DBI Enugu campus is a priority for us, Daser stated. We are already working on the necessary arrangements, and by February 2025 this year, the campus will be fully functional as a full-blown ICT training hub.”
Daser emphasised the institute’s vision to foster digital transformation across Nigeria through its various campuses and programs. He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure, engage experienced faculty, and expand training programs to meet the dynamic demands of the digital economy.
The announcement was met with applause and gratitude from the SEYSF delegation. Mazi Onyirimba expressed optimism that the revitalisation of the campus would significantly impact youth development in the region, stating, “This is a victory not just for the South East but for the entire country. We believe the DBI Enugu campus will soon become a model for digital education and skill acquisition.”
As the visit concluded, the SEYSF delegation pledged to continue working closely with DBI to ensure the realisation of its goals for the Enugu campus and to promote digital inclusion across the Southeast.
The revitalization of the DBI Enugu campus is expected to be a major step forward in Nigeria’s quest to bridge the digital divide and empower its youth with the skills needed to thrive in the global digital economy.
