The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) team led by the President/CEO, Prof Mohammed Ajiya was among the stakeholders at the *11th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE)* held at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House, Kano State to review and update policies on Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria.
The meeting themed: “Leveraging Digital Technology and Innovation to Drive Nigeria’s Economic Growth and Development” had participants who represented each state of the federation as well as other stakeholders including the DBI.
Starting on Monday, 22nd January 2024, the event took off with technical sessions held on Monday and Tuesday, where over 160 memorandums submitted by various stakeholders were diligently scrutinized and approved by the council.
NCCIDE is a forum where all state Commissioners of ICT and Digital Economy all over the federation meet annually to discuss progress, challenges, and emerging trends in the sector and ensure that necessary advice is given to the overall development of the sector and the country at large.
This year’s theme: “Leveraging Digital Technology and Innovation to Drive Nigeria’s Economic Growth and Development,” underscores the importance of leveraging the digital landscape to achieve sustainable development, economic growth, and improved living standards for the citizens.
Engaging conversations were had about opportunities for collaboration between the federal and state governments as the country expands plans to drive growth in the digital and innovation ecosystem.
The program which lasted for 5 days featured visitation to selected sites within Kano, a courtesy visit by council members led by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani to His Royal Highness, Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and to the office of the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Mal. Abba Kabir Yusuf
The Council Meeting commenced on Monday, 22nd, and ended on Friday, 26th of January 2024.
Among the dignitaries at the council meeting includes, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Dr. Bosun Tijani, Chairman of House Committee on Communications, Hon. Peter Akpatason who was duly represented by Hon. Dr. Midala Usman, a member of the committee, Staff of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Chief Executive Officers, Directors from Ministries, Department, ents and Agencies such as National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA),
Nigerian Communication Satellite (NigComSat), Data Protection Council, Galaxy Backbone, Representative of the Speaker, States’ Commissioners for Information and Communications, and Senior Leaders of Government ICT Institutions among others.
The Digital Bridge Institute, DBI was not left out as the team was led by the President/CEO, Prof Mohammed Ajiya, Mr Maitakata Yakubu, Head of Kano Campus, and other staff of the DBI.
